Mission Statement
At Mayfield Elementary School, students will be accepted, appreciated, nurtured, and challenged according to their individual needs.

Through their education at school, students will gain the skills, strategies, and desire necessary for continued learning. They will also develop a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and each other and their community.

To this end, faculty and staff will create a safe and rich multicultural environment for learning; design an integrated curriculum with strong multi-disciplinary components; provide for children to become self-directed learners; and share their enthusiasm for learning in an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation.

Henry L Mayfield Biography

Growing up in Slidell, he was known as "Peter" or "Pete". There
are still a few "old-time" Slidell folks who call him Peter or Pete Mayfield. Professionally, however, he always used Henry L. Mayfield.

Henry Mayfield was known as an academic leader in the parish. He began his career in the St. Tammany Parish Public School System in July, 1926, serving as a social studies teacher and basketball coach at a school in Madisonville for one year and as principal of a school in Waldheim for four years and at Slidell Grammar School for four years.

He was appointed the System’s first instructional supervisor in the Central Office in January, 1935. He served as a Supervisor of Instruction for 31 years. Mr. Mayfield served as Assistant Superintendent from April, 1965, until his retirement in June, 1968.

Mr. Mayfield also taught at Tulane University for more than ten years. He was known as a “behind the scenes” leader whose expertise, dedication, and broad range of work helped make the St. Tammany System a leading school system.

Henry L. Mayfield Elementary School opened its doors at temporary locations;
Bayou Woods Elementary and Carolyn Park Middle School on August 5, 2011
The permanent NEW building opened for classes on March 27, 2012 for PK-5th grade.
The official ribbon cutting ceremony was on March 30, 2012.
The 2012-2013 school year is when 6th grade was added to make us PK-6.
